ACI Asia Plans IPO by March 2006

By Bosky Shroff
Mumbai, Dec 26, 2005

Mumbai-based notebook company ACI (Asia) is preparing for an IPO in three months' time by ramping its channel and services initiatives.

High on the agenda is the retail strategy which involves tying up around 1,000 partners, which it says had been delayed due to "high influx of orders the company had received through its existing network". According to Hirji Patel, CMD, ACI, the company is looking to put this strategy back on track from January 1 as the company aims to increase its turnover in preparation for its IPO.

At present, ACI has around 30 corporate sales partners and 10 volume sales partners across the country apart from a network of over 300 dealers. The company plans to increase this network being selective with the partnerships to ensure that service does not worsen.

"The company intends to assign at least 10 more regional distributors and over 100 corporate sales partners in the next three months. Together with this, the network of small dealers will automatically be increased to around 300 to 400-plus," said Patel.

Apart from this, the company is also planning to offer corporate customers a free laptop service. "ACi will collect notebooks considered dead or junk from corporate customers. We plan to repair up to 50 percent of these and return them in full working condition with one-year fully comprehensive warranty absolutely free," said Patel.

The company is also continuing with its buyback scheme, first launched in May this year. According to Patel, the reason for this was to stock up as many second-hand notebooks as possible to provide spare parts and service under its PC Protect Plan (an extended warranty plan that covers parts, labor and insurance).

"Parts of old notebooks are scarce worldwide and hence this exercise of ours will enable in near future to offer parts of all notebooks through our website to all service companies and vendors throughout India as well as in world," said Patel.
What do you think of ACI's new growth strategy?

Quite an interesting artical..how come I missed it. ACi in IPO ! Some thing to dwell upon.. Do we know the credintial of Hirji Patel and his organisation! Where has he come from and whats his back ground! Does he have a UK operation! He talks about Dis-Granted employee, why so. Why are employees irriatated with him! His official records !Whats his market credential. India govt should probe more into such operations before granting any IPO status to such fly by night operaters. He has big mouth no doubt which is admireable.

As someone rightly mentioned that the actual figures of ACI laptops should be put on papers justifying their success and only then they should think of approaching the public for funds. After all these are nothing but laptop kits availble in taiwan for anyone to assemble, there's nothing MNC in the whole thing. Zenith is doing, WIPRO is doing, they don't call themselves MNC companies.

Exactly. And i am really surprised to see that this message was not moderated. Can we know as to why messages are being moderated when we are trying to ask facts to the company. Does the editorial team have any vested interest in this news ?? I guess we should get a reply for this

Last year Indian companies made up 25000 crore Rupees through the IPO`S. ACI also wants to make money by sailing on the same wind. but everyone knows the kind of margins the IT hardware Industry is working upon now days and more over to make it worse, have look at ACI performance and standing in the Indian IT industry.Among the competitors like HP, Compaq, lenovo, dell, toshiba, HCl, Sahara, Zenith, samsung, LG, sony, gigabyte, kobian. ACI is no where. So Hirji dont put cutains on your performance and also dont foolaround with the Indian Investors.

Hi, can you please tell me the contact details of those Taiwan companies selling the laptop kits? I have been hunting on the net for more than a year but can not get even one response. Also, they offer container loads only which is a risk in terms of price crashes, storage and freight problems. Please advise.

Isn't it surprising that suddenly there has been no comment from ACi to the below queries raised by couple of people? Otherwise down below one can see lots of information coming in from ACi. Is it because there is no answers to the MNC thing and the figures?

Everyone knows that any laptop has the same components across the GLOBE. No one does thier own components. If its intel, its only from Intel, same for all. The only thing we should look for is service, and i feel ACI has a good service set-up. IN fact ACI repairs all brands and in any condition. Maybe ACI can look into promoting thier laptops in some other brand name, maybe bringing out a youth influencing brand name. Best of Luck ACI
