Asus has launched its 2nd generation of Eee PCs in India. The new models-904H and 100H have been targeted toward the young consumers, who prefer Internet on the go.
"India is on the verge of a huge expansion. Internet medium devices are also on the rise. The Eee PC mainly targets users who prefer it for content consumption. We want to make the World Wide Web really worldwide," said Gopal Swaminathan, General Manager, OEM Business, Intel (South Asia).
Contextually, it may be noted that Asus has partnered with Intel to use its 45 nm High-k technology in the notebooks.
Growing on resellers' concerns that Asus, while launching the first version of its Eee PC earlier in January, had made logistics errors with distributors, resulting in irregular supply of the product, Stanley Wu, product manager, Asus (India), said, "This time we'll be more careful, and try to maintain a direct network with our resellers as well. Our 2nd generation laptops should be available to all of them."
Asus has incorporated a 6-cell super hybrid battery technology for its series of notebooks. The 904h model has an expectancy of 3-5 hours while the 1000h claims to have up to 7 hours of battery life. Asus asserts this longevity to be a factor, which makes them unrivaled by any other company. "Acer or any other company has a 3-cell battery in their PCs, whereas Asus is packed with a 6-cell. This makes us totally incomparable with anyone. We are what one would call a 'one-day computing' practice," added Benson Lin, general manager, Asus (Middle-East & Africa).
The Eee PC has also bought Asus and Microsoft together. Microsoft Live has been pre-installed on both the notebooks. Prasanna Meduri, regional industry manager, Microsoft, said, "This is a fantastic partnership. From a Microsoft perspective, when a good hardware is present, we implement the experiences we have. Our biggest focus is on educational services. We intend for SMBs and other segments to benefit from Microsoft Live."
With 5 branches in A class cities and 90 service locations, Asus is already knee-deep in the Indian market. "Our partners Intel and Microsoft are very efficient. Our CEO is strategizing to get totally localized in India. We have a monthly target of deploying at least 30k units," added Wu.
