Investment Helps IT Boom in Agra

The construction of malls, setting up of new multinational corporations and other recent developments are gradually leading to an IT boom, according to the 33 partners who attended the DI Yatra meet in the historic city of Agra.
"The setting up of malls and other retail outlets has really helped us as the need for local networks and better services has increased," said Rajeev Sharma, proprietor of Reliable Links.
However, despite this gradual shift, assembled computers still reign supreme over the branded computers as far as market share is concerned. The partners felt that the domination of the SOHO and the student segment is the reason for this trend. "80 percent of the SOHO segment prefer the assembled PCs, whereas it's only the corporate who insist on branded computers," Sharma said.
The major brands are still trying to establish their foothold in a market where the assembled PCs account for approximately 60 percent of the sales. Delay in resolving service-related issues is a major roadblock for these brands.
"The service for branded products is really poor. There are no prompt services as most of the service centers here act as collection centers for Delhi, which also results in additional costs for us," said Shailesh Dubey, proprietor, Mukul IT Solutions.
There is some joy for the partners as laptops are getting popular, with HCL, HP and Lenovo doing considerably well in this segment.
The channel partners are represented by the IT Club of Agra, which was formed seven years ago and has nearly 80 members. The Club is planning to hold an IT fair on a large scale in the month of December.
