Mangalore Yearns For An IT Association
By

Mumbai, Jan 12, 2007
Channel partners in Mangalore, which sparked off the first phase of the Discover India Yatra conducted by 360 Magazine in 2007 strongly bewailed the absence of an IT association in this scenic city.
While brands like Seagate, Sahara and Avaya made presentations to the 57 channel partners who attended, Pinnacle only displayed its products at the event.
With sales of assembled computers amounting to almost 60 percent PC business, only 40 percent of the PC sales in the city being that of brands. The umpteen educational institutions in the city are the major source of business for the channel. This is followed by business in the home segments and some private firms and other corporates.
Stressing the need for an association in the region, Yashwanth, proprietor, Param Computers said, "We need an association urgently, but no one's talking about it." Another partner from the region, Rohit Sharma, proprietor, Jasmine Infotech reiterated his opinion saying, "As seen in other parts of the country, having an IT association would allow us to discuss our problems together and find solutions to them."
Sujai, proprietor, CATS said that he was the treasurer of the erstwhile association that had been formed in the Mangalore, but after resolving the TOT and RST issues that we had with the Karnataka government, there were no problems that the association could address. "I think in Mangalore, we need an association only when an issue crops up," he said apathetically.
Mangalore region, which also includes the nearby town of Udipi, sells atleast 500 PCs a month.
Differing from the general consensus of the partners, Warren, proprietor, Belwil Softwhip asserted that while end-customers prefer assembled PCs while buying, they are eventually disappointed by the poor quality of after sales services. "We used to sell assembled PCs earlier but after the warranty issues cropping up with major HDD and motherboard brands, we opted to sell brands alone," said Warren.
On the lack of an association, Warren added that the survival of an association in the city was practically impossible, owing to the aggressive pricing of products and excessively competitive mentality of the partners.

All over india IT community members have taken initiative for forming association based on common flatform. Not nesessary for fighting a case against Govt. Benifits are many. All you require is willingness to work together as community & some time to spare for those activities. Put aside all your business rivalry. Of cource association should have the same preference as your individual business. |
