Vijayawada IT Market on the Upswing

The status of being Asia's largest junction, an educational hub and the business capital of Andhra Pradesh has ensured that Vijayawada's growth in the IT-sector is second only to Hyderabad in the state.
According to the 34 partners who attended the recently concluded DI Yatra, the initiatives taken by the local developers with some help from the government have increased the scope for IT in a big way. "The mushrooming call centers and other upcoming avenues have also contributed to this growth, while the presence of the open market has ensured that there is no major price difference," said P. Prasad, proprietor of World Solutions.
The GPU market is fast evolving in Vijayawada while the demand for high-end, laser and multifunctional printers is on the increase, the Yatra revealed.
However, the growth still hasn't changed the buying pattern in Vijayawada, which continues to remain a price-sensitive market dominated by assembled PCs. K. Venkata Subbarao of Rajyalaxmi Infocom said, "Assembled PCs are cheaper by Rs.4,000 to Rs.5,000 vis-a-vis branded ones."
According to Prasad, "Assembled PCs account for nearly 80% of the total sales of PCs in this city, where nearly 100-120 PCs are sold daily." He blamed the poor marketing strategies of the major vendors for this phenomenon.
Of the brands that are trying to establish a foothold, Lenovo, HP-Compaq and Acer have done a fair job.
HP, Logitech and Delta Energy Systems India made presentations at the event.
