AA Infoways Seeks Partners for Toshiba Drives

Toshiba America Electronic Components has announced a family of Toshiba-branded USB 2.0 Flash drives, to be distributed in India by Delhi-based AA Infoways.
The TransMemory brand USB 2.0 Flash drives will initially be offered in capacities of 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB using Toshiba's NAND Flash. The 128MB drive will retail at Rs 1,250; 256MB drive at Rs 1,700; and the 512MB drive at Rs 3,200. The 1GB drive will be available in the country in the next one-two months.
Pramod Aggarwal of AA Infoways said that the company is scouting for one exclusive retail partner each in small cities like Kochi and Vizag, and these should be finalized in the next two months. The company itself has 10 branches across India. "We already have made these products available in the metros," said Aggarwal.
According to Aggarwal, the TransMemory Flash drives have a technological advantange of being produced in Japan, unlike many other brands, and has a premium chip. He denied any occurrence of fake Toshiba Flash drives.
"With Toshiba's latest generation, 90 nanometer process technology, the read/write performance of MLC NAND is close to that of the previous generation SLC NAND, with sustained read speeds of 8MBps and sustained write speeds of 3.8MBps," said Brian Kumagai, business development manager, NAND Flash, for TAEC. "This performance level is well-suited for a wide range of consumer applications, including USB Flash drives."
Aggarwal felt that though the 256MB Flash drives were the most popular in the country, with falling prices of 512MB drives this capacity will be the most-sought-after within the next three months.
