AMD Appoints Regional Distributor in APAC Region

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Oct 20, 2007

AMD has announced the appointment of Icon Resources & Technologies as its regional distributor for Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

Announcing the relationship, Haresh Bharia, director (Distribution and Sales) of AMD India, said that the company had been on the lookout for quite some time for the right partner to penetrate the Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal markets effectively.

Bharia said that in Icon, AMD sees a committed distribution partner that has the reach and respect of the IT industry. AMD believes that this association would leverage their combined strengths of right technology solutions and effective reach toward developing the growing IT market in these nations.

Speaking on the occasion, P. Murali, director (Operations and Finance) of Icon, said, "AMD offers a good value proposition to customers through its products and solutions. We hope this association with AMD will help us address the needs of our customers and penetrate these markets more effectively."

Icon is represented in India by IRT Computer Solutions with offices in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore. IRT offers solutions in areas like Business Intelligence, Enterprise Storage, Enterprise Security, and Enterprise Content Management.

Going by AMD's activities in the past 8 months their expectation seems to pull down their market share by any means, including changing a growing "distribution model" in India. With the current product portfolio, it needs more talend that "mistakes" to bring down their own market share and they have been quite succesful in this.
