ATI Targets Over 35 Percent Growth

By Sharmee Roy
Bangalore, Mar 15, 2007

Dispelling doubts about overlapping issue following merger with AMD, ATI is eyeing at the robust graphic card market and is all set to enhance its channel base in order to achieve more than 35 percent growth.

Stating this Rajshekhar Bhatt, national sales manager, ATI Product Line & Chipset Business told Channel Times that in this context a well-charted training program was also undertaken.

"We had such an extensive training program in Bangalore and gave partners a clear roadmap," he said adding so far south of India has been the major market for the vendor with higher level of acceptability of technology, awareness and more disposable income and that they would eye similar results in other regions.

"Our business is dependent on channels and like always channel training remains a part of the focus for us," he said.

He said the graphic market is growing at 35 percent, which is higher than the PC market "and our aim is to grow more than the market."

"We don't want to over distribute our product and lead unhealthy competition. We would be interested in having more partners focused on a particular vertical. We have products catering to gaming market, video and editing market as well as the animation," he said.

For graphic cards business it at present has over 200 partners with an average 10 to 12 partners in major cities, 5 in smaller cities and 3 to five refresh partners remote cities. While for its motherboard business it goes through a focused set of partners with A class cities catering to 30 partners, B class cities catering to 20 to 10 partners. "We are looking for expansion in general," he said.

AMD bought ATI in 2006 believing that combining traditional processing chores with graphics capabilities in one chip would give AMD a long-term advantage over its principal rival Intel.
Will ATI be able to achieve this target?

"We don't want to over distribute our product and lead unhealthy competition. We would be interested in having more partners focused on a particular vertical. We have products catering to gaming market, video and editing market as well as the animation," This is laughable. WHERE are your products selling? EVERYTHING you launch is paper. I never find anything anywhere. Please first "distribute" in the market and then get to "we dont want to overdistribute" No offense Mr. Bhatt but, what a joke.
