A Brand Showroom With a Difference

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, May 02, 2008 1640 hrs IST

Canon India's first brand showroom in India, set up recently at Gurgaon, will display Canon's complete range of consumer offerings - but in a non-selling environment. The store, called 'Canon Image Lounge', was inaugurated by Kensaku Konishi, president & CEO, Canon India, and Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice president, Canon India. Located at Ambience Mall, Gurgaon and spread over 2,000 sq. feet, the state-of-the-art lounge provides the ambience and right platform for new products as well as new technologies to be showcased and experienced, the company said. Although there are over 4,000 retail points in India where Canon camera and printer products are available, Bharadwaj feels that there is still a need for a platform to showcase Canon products allowing consumers to feel and try the complete range of the company's consumer offerings. "By visiting the Image Lounge, the customer can not only obtain first-hand information on new products launched and make an informed choice of purchase, but is also not under any commitment to purchase," he said, adding, "We have displayed over 100 consumer products in this showroom spread over 7 zones of Powershot, IXUS, Selphy, Digital Video camcorder, Digital SLR, PIXMA and XEED Projector room." The lounge will exhibit the entire range of consumer product offerings from Canon like printer, scanner, projector, digital camera, digital camcorder and all-in-one device categories assembled under one roof. Speaking on the occasion, Konishi said, "Canon's Image lounge is a 'first of its kind' concept in India serving as a guide for the digital enthusiasts by providing a 'before-you-buy' experience and information. This initiative is first of its kind in the industry and we aim to capitalize on the niche created to enhance brand awareness." The digital imaging company will be running inaugural offers on all products through its sales outlets in Ambience Mall. This is part of Canon's initiative to set up exclusive retail showroom across the country. There will be 2 more outlets in Mumbai and Bangalore, which will be inaugurated before June 2008. Very Bold statement. I would further state that the with entire team approach is to shy away from the problems rather then facing the same. We have sunk lot of money into Canon products which are lying idle because of want of spares support.

Alok does not have it in him to drive the Canon printer business. He had once visited my store to increase my Canon business and was displaying lots of attitude , I could make out that day , that he would be an utter failure.Someone , who has come all the way , to make me do the business ,simply strayed away from his target when I told him the problems associated with it. With this kind of a leader , how do you expect the team to work??
