Kingston Technology, the independent memory products manufacturer, has launched its DataTraveler (DT) Locker, a USB Flash drive, initially in Asia only.
The DT Locker allows users to create a privacy zone partition that protects data with 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) hardware-based encryption, the strongest available on the market, the company claimed.
Nitin Malhotra, country manager, Kingston Technology, India, said, "Given the increasing importance of the business information and personal data protection, we decided to develop the DT Locker, which combines top-notch security features with an attractive consumer price point. The ability to create a public and private zone allows users to have maximum flexibility in the use of their DataTraveler Locker."
The new flash drive's 256-bit AES encryption is achieved through a dedicated co-processor that encrypts data 'on the fly'. The privacy partition is accessed via password entry and attacks are discouraged while the drive locks down and reformats after 10 failed attempts.
The DT Locker sports a rugged design with a metal casing that surrounds and protects a rubberized chassis that swivels open to reveal the USB connector. The 2-GB capacity is available now and will be followed by the 4- and 8-GB capacities. The drive is supported by a 5-year warranty and free technical support.
Features and specifications include - Dimensions: 2.57" x 0.71" x 0.41" (65.4 mm x 18.0 mm x 10.4 mm); Operating Temperature: 32 degrees F to 140 degrees F (0 degree C to 60 degrees C); Storage Temperature: -4 degrees F to 185 degrees F (-20 degrees C to 85 degrees C); Easy plug and play; Compliant: designed to Hi-speed USB 2.0; and capless design means.
Kingston products are distributed in India by Avnet India, HCL, Ingram Micro, Kobian Electronics and Transtek Infoways. The 2 GB DT Locker USB Drive is priced at Rs.1,955, 4 GB drive at Rs.3,455, and 8 GB at Rs.8,199.
