Abacus, Hynix Meet Focuses on Memory Market Trend
By

Abacus, Hynix technology meet was conducted in Mumbai yesterday, in presence of more than 125 channel professionals. The theme of the event was to highlight the memory market status quo and trend worldwide, with special focus on the Indian scenario.
Among the prominent speakers in the event, there were Umesh Modi - CEO, Abacus, Subhashis Das - V. P. Business Development, Abacus, H. C. Kim - General Manager, Hynix Semiconductor India Subcontinent, Sanjay Kaul - Sr. Manager (S&M), Hynix Semiconductor India Subcontinent, W. J. Yoon - Sr.Manager - (S&M) and S. S. Lee - VP Marketing, Hynix, Korea. Kim delivered the presentation by C. T. Chaung of Hynix's Head - India and Singapore.
Owing to the obvious effect of the economic slump, while the entire Memory market is drastically affected worldwide - because of slow growth in sales of IT products, people are leaning towards Untested DRAM (UTT) memory chips, which offer a cheaper option but have their own shortfalls, in the event, most of the presenters stressed on use of high quality memory products for reliability and durability.
It may be noted that, although 85% of Hynix memory business comes from PC market, the company also caters to the emerging telecom sector. As on date worldwide Hynix enjoys 21% share in DRAM market and 17% in NAND market. The company ranked no. 6 among semiconductor manufacturers worldwide in 2007.
Abacus Peripherals is a Module House Partner of Hynix for the last eight years. It manufactures ZION memory systems in its Daman factory. The company is in business with Wipro, Zenith, HCL, PCS and other leading PC vendors from India. Contextually, in India ZION is the memory brand that gives three-year national direct warranty on the products.
Although, it is expected that the overcast sky of the Memory industry worldwide will start becoming sunny towards the second half of 2010, in Indian market demand of the Memory products will not subside much. However, in the plethora of UTT products, will the genuinely tested high-performance products be able to remain competitive?
