Acer to Scale Up Retail Focus
By
Sandhya Malhotra
Delhi, Jul 2, 2007
Betting to touch a Rs.1,100 crore mark by this fiscal year, Acer India has partnered with 5 large retail formats - Croma, e-zone, Jumbo Electronics, Metro, and Hyper city in India.
While elaborating more on retail expansion plans, S Rajendran, GM (marketing and sales) of Acer, said," We are planning to set up 50 more Acer exclusive malls and muti-branded IT specialty stores in upcountry markets as we are expecting more retail expansions to happen in Tier II cities. Currently, Acer has 100 exclusive and 150 multi-branded stores in 110 cities.
On the sidelines of new notebook product offerings, the company has further planned to combine design strategy of Acer's design team and BMW DesignworksUSA. The new notebooks have incorporated study design features from a consumer's perspective, like new color and material; branding and naming; and shape treatment.
WS Mukund, managing director of Acer India, said, "Along with Intel, we are working towards bringing standardization of Acer notebooks from Intel Celeron and Core 2 Duo to Intel Santa Rosa platform ranges, and we would also transit our Folio designed notebooks to the newly launched Gemstone and ProFile designed notebooks by the end of this year."
Acer's recently launched toll-free customer care number will be operational 6 days a week from 9 am to 6 pm. At this center, which we have outsourced to a company in Okhla, New Delhi, we have trained the personnel on technology, soft skills, and warranty validation. The company has opened up exclusive repair and replacement center in Bangalore.
"We will also expand our service network to 300 cities from the current strength of 175 cities by the year-end, thus making an expanded footprint of authorized service partners of Acer India," said Rajendran.
