American Express Strengthens India Presence

American Express has strengthened its presence in India with the announcement of two senior management appointments. Simran Kalra has been named as vice president for Product Management & Development and Shanta Vallury Gandhi as VP for Acquisitions and Partnerships for its India operations. These two new roles entail responsibility for providing strategic direction to further enhance the leadership position of American Express Consumer Card business in India.
Rob Hennin, country manager, American Express India, said, "India represents a tremendous growth opportunity for the company, and we are committed to strengthen our talent base here. We are very pleased to welcome Simran and Shanta to our India team. Both of them are experts in their respective domains, and they both come with extensive experience. These new appointments will help us further accelerate the growth of our consumer card business in India."
Kalra, who joined American Express in India 15 years ago, has held several senior positions in the Asia Pacific Australia region. Commenting on her new role, Kalra said, "I look forward to being a part of the American Express India team. It feels great to return to one of the most exciting markets in the world."
Shanta comes to American Express following a nine-year-long career with ICICI Bank, where she most recently held the position of joint general manager. In her role at American Express, Shanta will be responsible for leading and building an effective premium sales organization. In addition, she will be responsible for customer acquisitions, early engagement and cross sell.
"I am very excited about joining American Express. This is a unique opportunity for me to understand and drive the business that provides premium value to its customers. I am looking forward to make a difference," said Shanta.
