Asus Unleashes Eee PC in India at 18K

Asus announced the launch of the new Asus Eee PC 4G model in India, in partnership with Intel and Microsoft.
The product is aimed at user segments like schoolchildren, housewives, senior citizens, teenagers, etc. who look for simple computing with a lightweight gadget. The other models of the Asus Eee PC are also expected in India soon.
The new line of PCs focuses on providing users with a comprehensive internet application based on three Es: Easy to learn, work, play; Excellent internet experience and Excellent mobile computing experience, and hence the product name of Eee PC, the company said.
Albert Tung, managing director, Asus India, said, "The Asus Eee PC has enhanced the computing lifestyle of technology users. With computing demands as well as growing number of users, both young and old, the Asus Eee PC provides users with a new mobile Internet experience."
Francis Kao, product manager, Asus India, said, "The worldwide acceptance of this product is symbolic of its simplicity, robust build quality and user-friendliness. Although it is primarily aimed at schoolchildren and teenagers, even other user groups have shown a lot of interest in this product."
The Eee PC has been introduced in the Mumbai market initially and it is available through major retailers like Croma and also through the company's network of channel partners. The Eee PC will be available at an MRP of Rs.18,000. The first sale of the Eee PC will commence on the 2nd of February 2008, 5 pm onwards at select Croma outlets in Mumbai. The first 100 buyers will be entitled to an additional special gift, the company said.
Speaking about the tieup between Asus and retailer Croma, Ajit Joshi, CEO & MD, Infiniti Retail, said, "This initiative is in line with Croma's effort to be in the forefront to offer path-breaking, latest technology and products to its customers."
The Eee PC offers 2 modes of intuitive user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC is also Windows XP compatible and has over 40 built-in applications. It features built-in WLAN connectivity.
The 7" Eee PC weighs 0.92 kg, with flash-based storage capacity and built-in webcam for compact mobility with wireless freedom. The special solid-state disc design based on built-in flash-memory gives the Eee PC shock-proof advantage over the traditional notebook PCs.
For the professional, the Eee PC comes with select software to maximize personal productivity, a dictionary, and the Open Office suite of software.
