Canon Puts OIC Initiative in the Fast Mode
By
Vijay Vedala
Mumbai, Feb 26, 2008
Canon India, which set up 25 Original Ink Centers (OICs) across India earlier this month, is on track to set up 130 new centers in 12 top cities in collaboration with its channel partners.
The new centers are expected to be in place by the end of September 2008.
OICs aim to increase consumer awareness about the advantages of using original inks for all inkjet printing products and making original inks easily available to the consumers. At present, the centers are located in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore, among others.
Talking to Channeltimes, V. P. Sajeevan, assistant director (consumer systems provider) of Canon India, informed, "We have identified most of our retail partners for OICs and all the tenders will be finalized by the end of June."
According to Sajeevan, the company will provide its OIC partners support in terms of glow signs and retail branding, classified and local advertisements, along with different schemes and training.
He also informed that Canon would encourage the usage of its 'Smarty Cartridge' through these OICs. "The use of refills, compatible cartridges and other gray market products is leading to dissatisfied users, following the quality of output that such products yield, Sajeevan said.
Smarty Cartridge is an economical cartridge designed to prevent users from using refills or compatible cartridges and other consumables.
The company also intends to increase its channel partners. Canon, which has around 2,500 channel partners, is aiming to extend its partner-count to 4,000 by December end.
