Canon to Rope in 500 SMB Specialist Partners
By

Mumbai, Jun 12, 2007
Giving a new dimension to its channel roadmap for Business Imaging Solutions (BIS), Canon India is eyeing 500 partners having specialization in the SMB segment.
This focused initiative from the digital imaging vendor comes at a time when the company is making a foray into its 10th year of operating in the country. It has already appointed 250 partners and would wrap up the process by the end of this year.
Talking about the company's BIS initiative, Puneet Datta, senior marketing manager, Business Imaging Solution, Canon India said, "As part of our second tier channel expansion program, we plan to recruit 500 new partners in this segment across the country. These specialized partners will be known as 'Canon Empowered Partners'." Currently Canon has a base of 130 partners catering to BIS solutions.
He said that a pre-requisite qualification to partner with the company, under the scheme, would be that the resellers have a strong profile in the SMB segment. Canon has identified a group of products that will serve the requirement of the small and medium businesses. This includes, MFDs, small copiers, scanners and faxes.
The company has planned to initiate an aggressive training campaign for its channel. "The first phase of this campaign will cover all the major metros. While in the second phase we plan to go to B and C class cities," said Datta. The vendor intends to conduct two training programs every month, covering metros and then further move on to regional training, which will be on a monthly basis.
Also, Canon has come up with a concept of education academy under the name 'Gurukul.' It is a two-day training program, where partners are rewarded on the basis of their performance.
Datta informed that the company is also considering the launch of a newsletter for BIS partners. This newsletter will provide the partners with necessary information on technology and also share training calendars and case studies of successful partners.
As part of Canon s realigned strategies, it will soon enter the B and C class market for its BIS segment. "Finding a specialized partner is relatively easy in a smaller city. Further the market here is flourishing giving immense opportunities for the company to grow," said Datta.
