Corsair to Mainly Focus on the Premium Market

By Pallabika Ganguly
Mumbai, Jun 18, 2008

Corsair, an internationally known manufacturer of high performance computer and flash memory products, has recently launched its new memory solution 4GB Dominator DDR3 memory kit, running at 2000MHz. In an exclusive interview with ChannelTimes, M. A. Mannan, country manager (India) of the company, explains Pallabika Ganguly about their long-term strategy for the Indian market, and the trend in DRAM industry. Excerpts...

What's your marketing plan for India?

Corsair has a long-term strategy for the Indian market. We are eyeing on a complete growth of our products here. With primary focus on the premium market, we wish to differentiate ourselves from others in strategy adoption. Hence, we will be concentrating on brand building. Also, we will be educating the channel partners and the end users about the benefits of using quality Corsair products. We are planning to use all available effective sources like - advertisements in channel-corporate magazines, online forums etc. We will also go for electronic media to approach the end users. Creation of awareness and educating masses about Corsair products will be the core activity of our marketing plan.

How many channel partners are you looking forward to maintain?

We will maintain enough channel partners to cover every region. The exact number of partners will depend on our distributors-channel partners' relationship. We will try to maintain the balance between our product distributors and channel partners. We will not allow any kind of tussle between us and our associates.

Who will be the main distributor?

At Corsair, we have a set up of national and regional distributors. Inspan Infotech,Tirupati Enterprises and Technology and Gadgets are some of our major distributors. We promote all our distributors to carry the entire product line of Corsair.

What are your products at present?

All Corsair products are aimed at the premium end of the PC market. We believe in approaching markets with high quality products, and delivering best service through our 22 city nationwide service centers.

Corsair offers DRAMs, power supplies, and USBs. Our Gaming DRAM comes with patented heat sinks that remove heat up to 6% better than other available DRAMs. Our USB is water and shock resistant. Also, our power supplies guarantee perfect operations at 50+ degrees centigrade temperature.

How do you rate the potential of your products in the Indian market?

It's really enormous. However, the Indian PC market is still at the stage, where majority of the consumers purchase purely on price basis and ignore quality and service. We hope that this tendency will definitely change soon, and we are patiently preparing our sales and service infrastructure for that time.

Corsair products are aimed at PC enthusiasts and quality conscious consumers. These consumers demand the best product performance and quality. In the US and Europe, Corsair is amongst the top memory brands, and we hope the same success story gets repeated in Indian market too.

What is the latest trend in DRAM industry worldwide?

The DRAM industry has been witnessing a continuous downfall in its prices on frequent basis. However, industry insiders are talking about price stability or even a price hike in confidence. Corsair is also excited to see DDR3 volumes starting to pick up as Intel's cost effective P45-based motherboards start to hit the market. Corsair expects DDR3 sales to make up a significant part of our overall sales starting Q4 2008.

How will you push standalone DRAM products here?

Frankly speaking, any product, in particular, does not require any push; rather it's a mandatory requirement of the market. We just need to create awareness among masses to promote the use of quality products.

What's your message to the Indian resellers?

Purchase quality PC components, and your back-end servicing issues will decrease drastically. Of course, we would like to see resellers purchase Corsair DRAMs, power supplies and USBs to reduce service issues, as our products are backed by a 10-year nationwide warranty.

The plan and the core strategy is perfect bu at the same time it can be refined. Example Maruti AUTO strategy and capturing the market. Price is not the sole criteria the focus should be on establishing sales and service at smallest city and town. result the market is yours.
