Cyberoam Enhances Network Security

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Jun 26, 2008

Cyberoam, a division of Elitecore Technologies, has announced the availability of advanced network security with the latest version of Cyberoam firmware. The enhancements offer greater surfing control through HTTPS URL filtering, and increase in web database categories. It also prevents data leakage and meets regulatory compliance needs via reporting of HTTP uploads, detection of phone home spyware and multiple syslog server support.

The HTTPS URL filtering blocks the web-based proxies, and malicious websites hosted over SSL by categorizing the domain names in its site database. Commenting on this availability, Abhilash Sonwane, VP (Product Management) said, "SSL tunnels hide user activity and result in anonymous surfing. With SSL encrypted traffic comprising a significant percentage of all traffic going through corporate gateways, it can result in a huge security hole in networks as it opens users to SSL-based proxies that bypass most content filtering solutions."

Now, businesses and educational institutions will be able to block access to unauthorized websites hosted over SSL -- protecting them from data leakage, spread of malicious content and unproductive downloads.

The recent web usage trends show a significant rise in traffic to radio and TV content online in addition to download of software, and other utilities for mobiles. Cyberoam's content filtering has added new URL categories (82+) to control the access to emerging unproductive sites. The newly-added categories include 'AudioSearch' (blocks audio search), 'Internet/Radio/TV' (blocks websites with TV or Radio communication) and 'MobileEntertainment' (blocks download of software and other utilities for mobiles).
Will this solution benefit the users?
