Cypress Ships One Billionth USB Controller

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Jul 13, 2009 1500 hrs IST

Cypress Semiconductor has shipped over one billion USB controllers. Cypress entered the USB market in 1996, and its USB portfolio includes, low-, full-, and high-speed controllers, embedded hosts, hubs, application specific bridges, transceivers and wireless solutions. As per the company, it has shipped more than 500 million USB devices since 2005.

"With media consumption continuing to grow and SuperSpeed USB on the way, our customers continue to turn to Cypress as the leader in USB. We were the first supplier to provide high-volume, flexible USB controllers, blazing the trail that led to USB adoption in products everywhere. We intend to maintain our leadership with new and innovative USB solutions," said TJ Rodgers, President and CEO, Cypress.

Brian O'Rourke, Principal Analyst, In-Stat, said, "We project the overall market for USB-enabled devices to grow to over four billion devices by 2013, driven mainly by its adoption across a broad range of PC and consumer electronics applications."
