Dell has come up with its Sales-affiliate programme to reach system integrators, resellers and shop owners in small towns and cities where the population is even 50,000 to 1 lakh. This programme empowers the partner to offer Dell products to the customers without bearing a huge investment, without taking the risk of price drop, without the botheration for the volume based incentives, and without the tension of competition with other Dell's affiliates.

"Basically, a sales-affiliate is a person who helps the customer to buy the right product according to his/her need. For example, in an engineering college, an ex-student or a senior student of that college may serve as a sales-affiliate for his juniors. Any person who wants to offer dell products to the end-users, can become the company's sales-affiliate," says, Mahesh Bhalla, director, Dell India.

The sales-affiliates help customers buy Dell's products through placing orders online. Although they may retain a few products for demonstration purpose, the final product is supplied by the company directly to the customer's doorstep.

The company has a very simple procedure for appointing Sales-affiliates. The interested person has to fill-up a one page form and submit that to the local Master Self affiliate (MSA). At present, there are 20 such MSA's across the country, and each of them has subordinate sales affiliates. The company is yet to appoint MSAs in Goa and Chhattisgarh.

According to Mahesh, this strategy of the company empowers the small resellers to satisfy their customers. Also, it saves customers from incurring extra expenses that seeps in due to three layers of channel.
