Dell Ropes in Delhi-based SIs

By Sandhya Malhotra
Delhi, May 31, 2007

Breaking away from its traditional direct selling model, Dell India has formally entered into channel business, and appointed its two first Delhi-based system integrators, Cache technologies and HBS systems, informed sources claimed.

The deal was signed earlier this month, and both the SIs are geared up to start selling Dell Laptop, desktop, and storage products in segments like SMB, educational, and corporate.

This underlines Dell's ambitious plans to achieve greater penetration in India, and it has set up its manufacturing plant in Chennai, which will be operational beginning July.

Prarthana Gupta, director of Cache technologies, which has been roped in by the manufacturing giant said, "Being appointed as system integrator for Dell is a big achievement for my company, and we are thrilled at the proposition of selling Dell Laptops, desktops, and storage products in SMB, corporate, and educational sectors mainly."

Cache technologies would also be providing service to Dell's end customers in the near future.

Echoing the same sentiments, Ajay Mittal, director of HBS systems, another designated partner for Dell said, "We are very excited to have Dell in our portfolio, which will add value proposition to our business. Initially we will sell to key corporate accounts, and gradually intend to move into the SMB and government sectors."
Is it beneficial for Dell to sell through channel?

This move will obviously make Dell's presence FELT in B and C class towns, also it will give them a advantage of reaching out to customers who are small customers and have been buying from the Channels. Overall it will be a win win for Dell in terms of Broadening the Reach. Only challnge will be to have good turn arounds with the "Customised products" which will surely be managed by a well set Supply Chain in place provided the Channels will do the corrcet Flow of information to Dell... In totality a Good Move Sameer wish you Good Luck!

Dell was familiar to be "Dell Direct" and now lost it's image and will be known as one of the crowded brands. Separate identity will not be there anymore.
