EMC Corporation, the global information management and storage solution provider, today announced the opening of its office and a customer support and logistics center in Chennai.
Speaking at the launch of EMC's operations in Tamil Nadu, Manoj Chugh, country manager, EMC, India & Saarc region, said, "Tamil Nadu has emerged as a preferred destination for IT, telecom and manufacturing as it has an excellent infrastructure backed up by positive government policies to attract investment. Today, Tamil Nadu alone accounts for exports of US $30 billion from India. The external storage market is one of the fastest growing segments within IT, growing at 14.8 percent CAGR from 2005 to 2010 according to IDC.
"We recognize the huge potential market for information management and storage in Tamil Nadu. The new office and customer support and logistics center in Chenna - part of our $500 million investment commitment in India by 2010 - will help us address the market opportunity in the state."
EMC has outlined a three-pronged strategy to tap this market. The three pillars of EMC s business strategy in Tamil Nadu are: generating market awareness for the need to implement information management and storage solutions; strengthening of marketing, sales and support infrastructure; and launching the industry s broadest portfolio of solutions and services. EMC s regional distributor for India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Redington, is headquartered in Chennai.
Chugh added, "Additionally, we are betting on the SMB segment to drive our growth in Tamil Nadu. EMC has recently launched EMC Insignia line of SMB products to tap the burgeoning SMB market in India. EMC Insignia will be available in Tamil Nadu through our regional distributor Redington and EMC Insignia distributor Select Technologies."
Arun Rawtani, Vice President, EMC South India, said, "We have over 100 customers in South India and we plan to double our customer base in the region by 2008. We strongly believe that the increased presence in Chennai will help us strengthen our foothold in South India and help our customers deploy a wide array of solutions including business continuity, backup, recovery & archiving solutions, compliance solutions, information security and business applications solutions."
