Fortinet Makes Foray into Services
By
Nirendra Dev
Mumbai, Sep 1, 2007
Having taken a substantial grip over security market, especially in UTM space, Fortinet has announced that it would soon appoint partners to exclusively cater to post-sales services.
Talking about company's new initiative, Vishak Raman, country manager of Fortinet told ChannelTimes, that they'll focus big time on services, wherein specialized partners are appointed across the country. He added that the new initiative will be unveiled within the next 2 quarters and the company will have at least 1 partner in each region in the country.
Elaborating on the profile of these partners, Raman stated, "These partners won't be able to undertake any sales operation. Under this initiative, you can bring in a product from any partner, but the services will be catered by the dedicated partners only."
According to the vendor, both such service centers will be set up in small towns as well.
Talking about the company's market penetration, Raman said that Fortinet has made a mark in security appliances and is giving competition to vendors like Juniper, Check Point, and Cisco. "So, the company no longer deserves to be termed a mere Unified Threat Management (UTM) vendor - even though we'd also continue to focus on UTM.
On channel expansion plans, Raman said that the company's partner base remains 20. "But we're not into the number game, and we'll go in for more depth than breadth. Our policy is to make security handling a simple phenomenon - and not make it complex by segregating partners into various categories," said he.
Raman further shared that Fortinet is a straightforward company for partners to deal with, and that the company will continue to add value to the services that it provides to its customers.
Ingram Micro will continue to be the national distributor for the company.
