Foundry Intros FastIron WS Switches

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Sep 19, 2008 1301 hrs IST

Foundry Networks, a provider of performance and total solutions for end-to-end switching and routing, has launched the FastIron WS Series of one-rack unit (1RU) fixed form factor Layer 2/3 switches.

Available in eight models, the FastIron WS Series expands Foundry's portfolio for small and medium businesses (SMBs) and large distributed enterprises. These switches are available as 24- and 48-port 10/100 or 10/100/1000 Mbps models. Each switch model is orderable with or without Power over Ethernet (PoE).

FastIron WS series PoE switches support the IEEE 802.3af standard.

As per the company, these switches are targeted toward environments in which space, power and fan noise are important deployment considerations. The FastIron WS compact design is well-suited for sites with limited installation space, claims the company.

For added network flexibility, the FastIron WS switches support an upgrade option for edge Layer 3 routing (RIP and OSPF). For the enterprise, they provide cost-effective network access for desktops, servers, workstations, wireless LAN networks and other Ethernet connected endpoints.

They simplify operations in VoIP environments by supporting IEEE 802.1ab LLDP and ANSI TIA 1057 LLDP-MED. Moreover, they can be used in metro area environments.

"Foundry continues to expand its networking solutions with the introduction of the FastIron WS Series. This product allows Foundry to extend its enterprise switching portfolio to cover additional segments of the market, and allows customers greater flexibility," said Steven J. Schuchart, junior principal analyst, Current Analysis.

The FastIron WS Series starts at US$1,195, and will be available in the Q4 of 2008.
