Genius Targets Mid-Range Market in India

Taiwan-based peripherals company Kye Systems Corp plans to position its Genius brand in the mid-level segment in India through a strong channel network.
The brand was present in the Indian market earlier through imports, it was only last year that the company stopped all imports to put its focus on the channel. Boris Cheng, sales specialist (OBM sales division), Kye Systems Corp, said, "Before 2005, there wasn't much focus on the Indian market. It was only last year that we stopped all imports and organized the channels to form more organized structure here."
The company plans to launch advertisement campaigns as well as lot of channel promotion activities like roadshows. Genius is trying to position itself as a mid-range brand in the market.
The company is also looking at retail with plans of setting up 40 outlets this year. Sandeep Ramani, country manager (OBM sales division), Kye Systems Corp, said, "In the first phase, we will be looking at setting up retail outlets in major cities including the metros and, in the second phase, we will further move into the B and C class cities like Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Jamshedpur, etc."
In addition, the company is eying OEM tieups with the top two to three brands in the country in the next two to three months. According to Ramani, 46 percent of Kye's business comes from OEMs.
Genius is aiming to garner a market share of 10 to 15 percent this year in the peripherals market.
