Gigabyte Extends Dual BIOS to Entire Motherboard Range

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Jun 11, 2009 1701 hrs IST

Gigabyte Technology, a manufacturer of motherboards, graphics cards and other computing hardware solutions, has decided to extend its proprietary Dual BIOS technology to every single Gigabyte motherboard with immediate effect. The move is aimed at maintaining market share growth in 2H, 2009.

The BIOS is the initial boot-up firmware that allows PCs to find and check all the hardware that the operating system needs to run with. If the BIOS is somehow physically damaged or attacked by a computer virus the operating system will not be able to boot-up and the PC will be useless. Dual BIOS provides backup BIOS that automatically repairs or replaces the primary BIOS when necessary, without any user intervention.

"Most motherboard RMA issues are related to the BIOS and in the past Dual BIOS has drastically reduced RMA rates on our high-end products. By extending Dual BIOS technology to our mainstream and entry level motherboards, we are significantly differentiating our products from the competition and providing our customers with a better quality product," said Jackson Hsu, Product Manager (Motherboard), Gigabyte Technology.

What do you think of this development?

good brand , but not good policies. backhand does not comes for 6-12 months. price is too high, even Asus is cheaper. RMA takes week time.( now we understand, Gigabyte was having problem, so they changed their BIOS), Actual scheme is never told to us. manupulation is too much... But the only this is more then 50% are liquidated by their sales person, rest you have to take pain to sell costlier MB. although payment is always problem in their sales.

good to know, advice which all models have this . G31?, P31 or higher Many other vendor has this. Asus , Biostar, MSI, Jetways, Asrok... And there cost is also cheaper then Gigabyte , then why should we go for Gigabyte. Competition has solid capacitor, choke capacitor, cooling, overclocking, cheaper price, swap warranty T1, T2, T3 scheme, Toll free technical support, burnt warranty.... Do you have burnt warranty? No... Then why Gigabyte..... Any USP....
