HP is entering the retail photo printing market with the launch of HP Retail Photo Solutions. The company has also announced its consumer online photo service - HP Snapfish customized specially for the Indian market (www.snapfish.co.in).
Speaking on the occasion, V. Krishnan, GM - (Consumer Sales, Imaging and Printing Group [IPG]), of HP India, said that HP wants to create an all-digital photography marketplace.
It targets establishing a footprint of 3,000 Retail Photo outlets with HP Retail Photo Solutions by 2010 and photo delivery through Snapfish across India.
Snapfish will offer consumers free online photo sharing, unlimited online photo storage, and professionally developed digital camera prints. The price is fixed at Rs.2.95 (4"x6" size).
Additionally, new customers will receive 20 free prints when they become a Snapfish member - with no obligations.
The HP Retail Photo Solutions will offer end-to-end digital photography printing services with HP photos that are supposed to last 5 times longer than traditional photos. Consumers can also print photo-based gifts with their favorite photos on key chains, mugs, T-shirts, mouse pads, etc. at the HP Retail Photo Outlet. This can also be availed on the HP Snapfish website.
The Photo Solution will allow consumers to print on various substrates such as art paper and canvas, and they can even print instant photo albums.
HP will be working with retail partners to roll out HP Retail Photo Solutions in supermarkets, photo specialty stores, electronics stores, office product stores, and traditional photo service stores. The brand identity of the HP Retail Solution will be a multi-color swirl with the punch line "Celebrate Life with HP Photos".
Elaborating on HP's entry in the retail photo printing market, V Narayanan, director (Retail Photo Solutions, IPG) of HP APJ, "With the announcement of the Photo Solutions in India, we hope to provide a profitable business proposition to the retailers by driving down costs and offering our customers more choice, improved flexibility, and better quality and price."
The Photo Solutions will comprise the HP Photosmart Studio and pm1000 Microlab Printer. The Photosmart Studio is for high-volume printing of photos and creative projects such as posters, albums, calendars, and greeting cards in as little as an hour. The HP Photosmart pm1000 Microlab is for high-speed 4"x6" printing.
Snapfish has over 40 million members in 15 countries, and is adding a quarter billion new pictures per month. Initially launched in the United States in April 2000, HP acquired Snapfish in April 2005.

Counterfeit hp cartridges have already invaded the market. HP recommends buying only from hp OCS (Original Cartridge Stores) .Even HP and Compaq notebooks sold by the unauthorised channel have over clocked non-hp processors. HP recommends buying from authorised HP dealers and HP Stores in particular who guide the customer properly about promo schemes and ensure genuine HP products. The company blames lack of consumer awareness regarding buying from unauthorized hp stores which creates warranty related problems. HP is planning massive ad campaign suggesting he customer to buy only from HP EXCLUSIVE STORES or HP Authorised Stores. |
