By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Dec 19, 2006

IBM announced the appointment of IBM Fellow Dr C. Mohan as the chief scientist for IBM India. In this new role, Dr Mohan will be responsible for development and leadership of IBM's technical community in India. He will help leverage IBM's technical strengths to build synergies with key stakeholders, give impetus to client engagements, and develop first-of-its kind projects in India.

He will also be a key representative of IBM India's technical community with the government, academia, customers and business partners. Dr Mohan is an IBM veteran and holds 34 patents to his credit. He was till recently at IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California where he worked on database and related topics.

Announcing the appointment, Shanker Annaswamy, country manager, IBM India, said, "We are pleased to have Dr Mohan as our chief scientist here in India. I believe this is an ideal choice for a critical position within IBM India. Dr Mohan brings with him a rich experience and understanding of IBM, profound expertise in his field, and a strong vision for the country. His involvement and focus will help us to further strengthen our technical talent pool in the country."

On his new appointment, Dr Mohan said, "This is a great opportunity for me, as in addition to my primary responsibility of helping IBM India with sustainable scientific development to leverage India's dominance in terms of technological prowess, I also hope to establish research experience for the younger technical community and build mindshare of the skills and talent we have in India, one of IBM's key emerging markets."

Dr Mohan was named an IBM Fellow, IBM's highest technical position, in 1997 for being recognized worldwide as a leading innovator in transaction management. He has also received the 1996 ACM SIGMOD Innovations Award in recognition of his contributions to the development and use of database systems and in 2002 was named an ACM Fellow and an IEEE Fellow as well.
