Intel Winds Up First Term on an Optimistic Note
By
Pearl Mistry
Mumbai, Oct 3, 2007
For Intel, technological innovation has characterized the last 6 months of the current fiscal. Along with this, the company has increased focus on retail and several other verticals in the SMB segment.
Speaking on the chipmaker's technological innovation, Rajesh Gupta, director (channel sales) of Intel, said that besides the Core 2 Duo, Intel has launched 2 Mobile processor platforms: Centrino Duo for consumers and Centrino Pro for biz segments. He added that it's also launched a Quad Core MP server processor codenamed Canland (Xeon 7300 series) and Weybridge platform.
Gupta said that the company has strengthened its efforts in retail - since retail has emerged as a significant vertical in India. "We've engaged with large format retail players like Tata Chroma for joint initiatives, and we'll continue to drive programs with OEMs and channels in retail," he said.
According to Gupta, Intel has identified several SMB verticals across India and run initiatives to maximize business for channels in these verticals. He added that it's also initiated pilots for managed services provider support model with key solution providers. Managed services, according to him, are leveraging Intel vPro processor technology, which allows seamless and 24x7 support of remote clients - including situations when clients are in shutdown condition.
Commenting on increasing demand, Gupta said that mobility as a segment has been growing significantly, and laptops have gained in the consumer segment.
He also said that a good section of channels have informed Intel that margins have been better in the first half of this year and "it's clearly linked with low price volatility observed in the same period".
In a round up of the last 6 months, Gupta said that growth has been to the tune of 20-25%, with good availability of products in the market and product support to the established metric.
