Kingston Introduces Standard Pricing
By
Yuga Chaudhari
Mumbai, Oct 2, 2007
To curb the growing menace of price disparity and counterfeit of products, Kingston -the memory manufacturer- has introduced standard prices with its distributors across the nation.
"Around a month back, we've introduced the concept of MRP stickers on all our products. We're hopeful that this move will help in curbing the problem of counterfeit products in the market," said Nitin Malhotra, newly appointed country manager of Kingston, told ChannelTimes.
Malhotra further added that along with MRP stickers, Kingston has also introduced standardized prices with all its 5 distributors, viz., HCL Technologies, Avnet India, Ingram Micro, Kobian Electronics, and Transtek Infoways. "This initiative will act as a monitoring system to check uniform prices across the markets," he said.
Kingston has been facing the problem of fake products and irregular prices in India. Thus the said move comes as relief to the ongoing problem faced by the channel partners in the market. Speaking on this, Naren Dubey, director of Transtek Infoways based in Bangalore said, "Parallel imports is one of the reasons for the current menace happening in the market. The recent initiative taken by the company may not be very full proof but it'll de-motivate parallel imports and the people who're not into legitimate business."
Dubey also informed that apart from the current initiatives taken, the company is also planning to take few other steps on similar lines.
"Educating partners is also necessary to curb counterfeit and parallel imports. Kingston tries to educate its partners through service centers. One can also check a genuine product on Kingston's official website," informed Malhotra.
When asked about channel response on company's latest move, Malhotra said that it's too early to comment on this, as it's been only 3 weeks since the company introduced the initiative.
