LG India to Discontinue Production of CRT Monitors
By
Sandhya Malhotra
Delhi, Oct 15, 2008 1515 hrs IST
LG India is all set to take complete transformation from CRT to LCD monitors by the end of this fiscal, and to attain this, the company is extending its range of LCD monitors by introducing three new different categories including energy efficient (W52TE), multi-link (L206WU) and the designer series (W84) monitors.
Moon B Shin, Managing Director, LG electronics (India), said," Looking at the price gap and customer preferences between LCD and CRT, the ratio of CRT is shrinking fast, and we intend to discontinue our CRT monitors' production by next year."
He also emphasized that LG would not increase the price of its IT products during the festive season. After Diwali, however, the price of desktops, laptops and ODDs may increase by 4-5%. The core objective of the company is to provide cost innovation and value proposition on premium products to the end-customers.
LG is also keeping low profile during the festive season without rolling out any special Diwali schemes. Dong-Pil Kim, General Manager, IT-Sales and Marketing, LG, said,"We are not announcing any special festival schemes and incentives for end-customers and channel partners. We will continue with our two-year extended warranty schemes till the end of this quarter, apart from that no gifts and lucky draws will be offered."
Delhi-based LG's regional distributor, Somesh Narang, Director, Elcom Trading, said,"We are getting good response from LG's two-years' extended warranty, but we expect the company should announce some channel-oriented schemes too." He also added that the vendor has not given any information on increased pricing.

I have a 230 Ltr 2Door Refrigerator-Model GLT242GPD. About 2 months back, the Vegetable Box & its Cover-tray were cracked. When I called up the Helpline, I was told that a representative would visit us to check and do needful for which they will charge Rs.330 as visit charges (The cost of the box and tray will be extra).I am shocked that the company charges visiting fee for a self-fitting spare part. When I told them that I can collect the Vege Box & Tray myself from the service centre to save the visit charge of 330, I was given an address of Digital Care-Naranpura. I visited this service center after calling them thrice in last 2 months but everytime I visit them, they inform me to come back after 4 days since they cannot find these parts. When I call the helpline, they tell me that since this model is old, the spares are not available easily. LG's claims of customer satisfaction and prompt After Sales Service fall flat when it actually comes to delivering the end-user. The models selling today will definately become old few years later, does that mean that parts will not be available ? There was no customer care reception or attendant at LG's Digital Care Service Centre which is located inside a old bungalow which has no chairs or fans for visitors and the computer operators are holed up in a room which is actually a kitchen where a maid was washing utensils and the whole area was strewn with filth and defected spare parts. The behaviour of the service centre staff was very careless and rude. |
