LG Shuts Down Lamington Road Service Center
By
Archana Venkatraman
Mumbai, Jun 19, 2006
LG Electronics (LGEIL) has wound up its second and the only existing service center at Lamington Road, Mumbai, citing low workload. V care, the service provider, which operated under the name ELGEE Service Care, stopped servicing LG products beginning June.
When contacted, R Manikandan, GM-sales & marketing LGEIL, said, "We were facing too low a workload at this service center for quite some time now. Besides, Lamington Road is far from the residential areas and end-users seldom come here for servicing. It is not an ideal hub for service centers." He, however, added that the company had started a new center at R P Outsource two months back in the suburbs "so that there always are two centers in Mumbai".
However, Sanjay Bhattacharya, assistant general manager, LG, West Zone, emphasized, "It (V care) has stopped operating only for this month due to some internal reasons and will definitely resume soon at the same place."
Initially, LG started off with two service centers at Lamington Road, of which Hybrid Service Center shifted to Andheri some time back. With V care shutting down recently, LG's channel partners have now to go to Andheri for service issues.
Jitendra Patel, support manager, Pacific Infotech, who handles the service issues for LG, said, "Now I direct all my customers to the Andheri service center, and they are very unhappy about this. If Samsung and Seagate continue to see value in a service center at Lamington Road then why not LG?" Patel added that the center was re-started for a few days, but was shut down again, "And we are still not sure what is the issue," he said.
When contacted, Umang Mehta, of Roop Technology and TAIT spokesperson, said, "According to the vendor, after finding a suitable place at Lamington Road either of the two centers would be moved there in the next 15-20 days." Kamlesh Mehta of V care (Vigilant Technologies), in charge of ELGEE Care Services, was not available for comment.
There are around seven-eight regional distributors at Lamington Road like Computer Corner, Pacific Infotech, Digital Infosys, etc. and not having a service center at Lamington is an issue with these dealers. As one of them, requesting anonymity, said, "The customers come to us with service issues and we cannot go to suburbs like Andheri with our problems, we need a center here."
With most vendors having their service centers at Lamington Road, LG's channel partners are not convinced by its explanation.

Mr.KAmlesh Mehta was from Visualan Technoloies and hiding under VCARE, This fellow ditched everyone who trusted him, and now this is the 5th venture he is closing down. Poor Guy what else he can do when Rajesh Bothra and his bankers are chasing him for recovery where he can think of business! |

It has to be seen if Lg closed the service centre, or the franchisee quit.In Goa we have been facing miserable service conditions from LG.Sevice centres change overnite. The franchisee attribute it to poor support from LG.What is the actual truth is not known. As a dealer, we have to face the music from customer, since LG service centres are very poor service providers.A simple call would take at least 7 to 8 days and 10 to 15 calls to the service centre, higher ups etc to get the call attended. One main reason I prefer not to deal in LG products even though the product may be good is bcos of no after sales service available for the products. Many times ODDs are given back in the same condition they were taken for repairs. |
