Lenovo India has geared up for the nationwide launch of its 'Think Servers', entry-level servers for small and medium size businesses, retail and branch offices. Earlier in the beginning of 2008, the company had entered into an agreement with IBM for its x86 server technology. According to the recent market speculations, IBM has discontinued the manufacturing of its entry-level X-series servers, and it has extended license technology only for entry-level servers to Lenovo.
However, the mutual understanding on marketing, pricing, stocking, distribution and billing policies are yet to be finalized. These servers are expected to be available in the market within the price range of Rs. 35, 000 to 1 lakh.
Presently, the server market has been brimmed with HP, Dell and IBM servers, and in the coming days it will be excited to watch how Lenovo servers would play and address the market with right pricing and strong after-sales support. When contacted, Lenovo officials confirmed the servers' launch, but did not divulge information on the patent of technology.
According to Gurgaon-based Dipesh Mangala, CEO, Computers Network and Telecom India and Lenovo's Royal Blue partner for last two years, "We are thrilled with a new range of Lenovo's Think Servers. The launch is likely to extend Lenovo's product line in addition to laptops, desktops and workstation."
Prarthana Gupta, CEO, Cache Technologies, said, "More than 20 channel partners from across India will be participating at the official launch of servers. We don't see any challenges before Lenovo, and it will be smooth transition from IBM servers to Lenovo Think Servers."
