Linksys Targets Soho and SMB Segments

By Yuga Chaudhari
Mumbai, Feb 17, 2007

Eyeing the robust midsize market, the wireless networking player Linksys plans to focus on SMB and Soho segments in 2007 and is looking out for partners who have a strong customer base in these areas.

Sanjeev Gupta, regional, sales director, Asia Pacific, Linksys said, "There is a growing demand for wireless among the SMB segment. We have already launched different line of products focusing on this segment."

He also said that company also foresees a potential market for wireless among the home segment. "One of the major reasons for this is the growing broadband penetration and increasing awareness about networking applications. A major demand for wireless is witnessed among the metros. Thus, our immediate focus would be to target the home users in A and B class cities," said Gupta.

The company would also double its channel base in the current year. "We want to increase the partner coverage in 2007. We are looking out for the partners having expertise in the said segments," he said. Linksys has at present tied up with two national distributors, Ingram Micro and Redington and has a channel base of about 300 partners.

Stating that the biggest challenge for the company is to create awareness about the company and the wireless technology among the channel partners, he said it has already started introducing different awareness campaigns across the country. Establishing demo centers, conducting regular training programs and sales incentives are some of the initiatives taken to expand its penetration among the partners.

After targeting metros, the company plans to move to Tier II and Tier III class cities. "Geographical expansion is definitely in pipeline," said Gupta. The company wants to target cities like Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, Cochin, Baroda Ahmedabad and others.
What do you think of Linksys' plans?
