Lite-on Plans to Establish Repair Center In India

By Pearl Mistry
Mumbai, Nov 4, 2006

Taiwan-based Lite-on, the optical disk drive manufacturer, plans to set up a repair center in India by the end of this year.

"We will start to establish a repair center by the end of this year," said Lewis Liou, customer service division, Lite-on IT Corporation. He added that Lite-on would retain its RMA policy until the repair center is completely established.

The abrupt withdrawal of Lite-on's 'immediate swap replacement' policy of RMA drives had left the company's channel partners stranded since September. While some partners contemplated to discontinue selling the brand, some others maintained their faith in the company's Indian distributor, Mediatech.

This announcement comes in the wake of rumors of Lite-on outsourcing its service to a leading IT outsourcing company providing application development, system integration, product implementation and consulting services.

"In order to improve our service, we have started providing our distributors abundant buffer (stock) since last month, especially to Mediatech, who is our trusted partner in India," clarified Liou.

With this announcement, Lite-on hopes to restore the faith of the channel in its business.

Confirming the development, Mediatech said that it had been intimated by Lite-on regarding the buffer stock, but it hadn't received any yet as it was in transit in the sea. As for the third-party service center, a Mediatech official said, "It only means good news for all the dealers if the service provider has a national presence."
What do you think of Lite-on's Indian initiative?

how come a company sells it product in india without a single service centre. the disties and dealers along with the various IT associations should see that the service centres should be there in the first place before inconveniencing the resellers and the public at large

we have now seen the product getting established fast in kolkata after its distributor opening up office here and we are very comfortable with the product. Liteon oepening up its service centre in india , is a good move but where all it will open and what policy will it pursue?? Because with mediatech, we are getting the warranty within their warranty policy and we are comfortable. Needs to be discussed with all pros and cons. Not so easy for a vendor to provide service to the satisfaction of at customer level.

It's a good news that liteon would open up its service centra in India. The only question remains is : liteon product is available in every nook and corner of India. Will Liteon open up in all major metros and second metros so that the service can be provided easily , which is now handled by mediatech.

Liteon may make good product but Liteon is a rubbish and 3rd class company when it comes to service & support. They have not even mentioned how many service centers and locations. I think they will only have one service center in Bangalore & proclaim it trying to make a fool of us. If this is so, then in my case who will pay the cost to send defective writer from Gujarat to Bangalore. I surely cannot pay this cost with the low profit on writers. Liteon has abused the channel put everyone in trouble and loss because RMA rate of Liteon is very very high. Everyone should boycott Liteon and stop selling unless Liteon have service center in each and every location where Liteon is selling. Liteon should not sell in locations wherever they do not have service available. I REFUSE to sell Liteon and stick to better reputed brands who have proper service. I hope others will not fall into Liteon trap and not believe in false promises of this company until something really happens.

As far as the product is concern ite -on has a very good repuation. And if we look towards warranty if they will setup their warranty centre in india than this product can achive a big share in Indian market.

Although this is positive news, I will take it with a pinch of salt going by Liteon's extremely bad track record of unfulfilled promises. I will believe it only when I really see service centers in operation. Also Mr. Liou of Liteon has mentioned service center instead of center(s). I hope this is not the case since it will be a completely useless solution if channel partners all over India are expected to send faulty products to one service center in India. Will Liteon or their service center pay the freight both ways in this case ? With such low margins in Optical drives, surely channel partner should not be expected to pay any freight. Also will there be a guaranteed turn around time of max 7 days ? To guarantee results from Liteon, I hope everyone stops selling Liteon until Liteon have service centers in channel partner's location.

It is indeed a very good move to rebuild the brand in the Indian Market. We would bevery keen to get associated with LITE ON for distributing and servicing its products in Delhi, Gurgaon (Haryana) and Jaipur (Rajasthan)
