MSI Unveils SLI Ready Mainboards for Power Users

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Mar 27, 2008

Micro-Star Int'l Co (MSI) has recently come out with Hybrid SLI technology ready K9N2 Diamond and K9N2 SLI Platinum mainboards for gaming enthusiasts.

K9N2 Diamond utilizes Nvidia's nForce780a chipset together with top-performance specifications while K9N2 SLI Platinum utilizes nForce750a chipset, making it cost-effective.

"K9N2 series mainboards are the best gaming choice on AMD platform," said Vincent Lai, MSI's worldwide marketing director.

Although the 2 mainboards have different market segments, they both come with MSI's Circu-Pipe design. Circu-Pipe can effectively reduce the high temperature from the chipset and MOSFET. This design improves the system stability and product life. The processor power supply of K9N2 series mainboards have 5 phases PWM design. Through MSI's power design, it allows power supply to become more stable, and also reduces the heat produced, especially during huge overclocking.

The large-capacity capacitors on these mainboards have low impedance and high ripple current and other characteristics that provide better filtering effect.

K9N2 Diamond is 3-way SLI technology ready. This technology can combine 3 VGA cards to process tasks, which brings higher 3D gaming resolutions with more detail DX10 effects, and also enhances the 3D frame rate to a higher level for more smooth gaming experience. K9N2 SLI Platinum only supports SLI technology, but through PCI-E bandwidth upgrade to Gen2, it can raise performance in heavy-loading status. These 2 mainboards have different specifications, K9N2 Diamond has an extreme performance design, and the other one has high C/P value product.

K9N2 Diamond Specifications: supports AMD Socket AM2+/AM2 Phenom, Athlon and Sempron processors; 3 PCI-E x16 slots (PCI Express Bus SPEC V2.0 compliant); supports x16 speed SLI & 3-way SLI Technology x16, x8, x8 ; 4 dual channel DIMMs DDRII 533/667/800/1066 up to 8GB; 2 ports 10/100/1000 LAN; X-Fi Xtreme Audio card, supports 24-bit/96KHz audio quality, 100dB SNR clarity, up to 7.1 Ch., EAX 4.0 Surround Sound; supports 6 SATAII; supports RAID 0/1/0+1/5; supports 2 e-SATA ports; 1 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI slots; 10x USB 2.0, 2x IEEE1394; Dual CoreCell technology with D.O.T.
