Mumbai, Dec 28, 2006
Lenovo plans to expand its channel business and market penetration, apart from focus on retail, in year 2007.
Elaborating on the company's strategies for 2007, Neeraj Sharma, managing director, Lenovo South Asia, said, "We plan to extend our reach to more cities across India. Currently, Lenovo has a presence in 270 cities and we expect it to grow to 300-plus cities by March 2007." He added, "Lenovo foresees opportunities in every segment, but our major focus would remain on the consumer segment for notebooks. Thus the home segment will definitely remain our priority."
To increase its market penetration across the country, Sharma said, the company intends to increase its exclusive outlets from the present 62 to 100 outlets by March 2007. "To further increase market penetration, Lenovo plans to help our distributors serve resellers in terms of credit. The company has an interesting consumer model wherein we have small distributors serving the smaller cities. We look forward to introduce and enhance different models," said Sharma.
As part of its new business strategy, Lenovo today announced the launch of its Innovation Center in Mumbai. The Center is aimed at enabling large enterprises & mid-market customers, business partners, solution providers and independent software vendors to collaborate on new personal computing solutions to address the current client IT challenges.
The Center is spread across 4,500 square feet and is located at Andheri. Intel, Microsoft, LANDesk, IBM and Cisco will partner with Lenovo at this Center to showcase new enterprise-level PC solutions in areas such as hardware platform and application integration, active management technology, network connectivity and power management. "With our third Innovation Center in India, we aim to accelerate innovation for diverse client challenges and developing markets," says Deepak Advani, senior vice president & chief marketing officer, Lenovo.
Currently, Lenovo has 1,500 channel partners in India and it intends to increase the number in the coming year, Sharma said.
