McAfee Takeover won't Hit Secure's Partners' Biz

The acquisition of Secure Computing by McAfee will have no impact on the business of former's channel partners. Despite the acquisition, Secure Computing will continue to work as an independent company, at least for a year. This means there will be no channel integration and no products' change.
Elaborating more on this, Kartik Shahani, Regional Director, McAfee India, said, "This is a beneficial situation for channels of both the side (McAfee and Secure Computing). At present, we are in the process of integrating the resources of both the companies, which will take at least one year. This timeframe will allow Secure's partners to exist with their current product offerings, and moreover, they can access McAfee products too."
The deal will strengthen McAfee's position in security risk management. Additionally, it plans to utilize Secure Computing's TrustedSource technology to expand intelligent 'in-the-cloud' security services for an additional layer of defense.
"Around 70-80% of McAfee partners are also existing partners of Secure Computing. It will help us conduct the training and orientation programmes. We are also planning to integrate our resources to introduce a multi-feature solution under one suite," added Shahani.
Even the officials from Secure Computing nodded that there will be absolutely no change on the market front for their partners, as of now. This also means that this San Jose-Based vendor would retain its brand name 'Secure Computing' for some more time.
On the restructuring of the team, Shahani added, "The lay-offs generally occur in the conditions of duplication of responsibilities. With Secure Computing operating independently, the possibility of lay-offs automatically becomes zero."
McAfee has acquired Secure Computing for US$ 5.75 per common share in cash, representing an equity value for latter's common stock of approximately US$ 418 million in the aggregate. Dan Ryan, President and CEO of Secure Computing, will now lead McAfee's Network Security Product biz. He will report directly to Dave DeWalt, President and CEO, McAfee.
