Motorola recently announced the opening of two new research and design centers in its key Asian markets of India and Taiwan. The centers are located in Bangalore and Taipei.
The new R&D center in Bangalore houses the research and development capabilities of Motorola's core networks division and embedded communications computing, both part of Motorola Networks. The center's focus will be to work on new telecom switching technologies and products across CDMA and GSM/UMTS networks, as well as develop products for a new class of computer - the communications server. By maximizing the benefits of open standards, these communications servers will enable equipment manufacturers to deliver new products and services to market faster, the company said.
"This new R&D center in Bangalore demonstrates the importance Motorola places on the Indian market. Our goal is to remain at the forefront of developing multimedia solutions that seamlessly combine voice, data, and video," said Simon Leung, regional president of Motorola Asia Pacific.
Encompassing over 117,000 square feet, the center is the second largest Motorola R&D facility in India.
Motorola's first R&D facility in India was launched in 1991 in Bangalore. Hyderabad is the location of two additional Motorola R&D sites for embedded communications computing and global software group.
The Taiwan Technology Center is Motorola's second R&D center in Taiwan and will operate at the company's Shin Dian Plant in Taipei. The center will focus on developing Motorola's broadband and wireless initiatives including Ultra Wide Band wireless solutions. The new center will provide greater cost efficiencies and streamline the worldwide delivery of Motorola connected home applications and solutions to its customers, the company said.
