NetApp Expands Midrange Platform, Sets New Goals

By Archana Venkatraman
Mumbai, Nov 15, 2006

Network Appliance announced the addition of two new highest-performing midrange platforms - the FAS3070 and the V3070 series - in its data center portfolio, broader storage area network (SAN) capabilities, introductions in the NetApp Manageability Software family and new professional services.

With the new launch, NetApp now aims to be a $ 5 billion company in the next three years, with a parallel product line and extend its portfolio from Linux platform to Windows platform, apart from increasing its tier II reseller base.

Soumitra Agarwal, marketing director, NetApp India, said, "These introductions highlight our comprehensive solutions, offering best performance for midrange SAN, provides flexibility to adapt to business change and the highest productivity for IT administrators and assets. From the FAS3070 and the V3070 to our extensive refresh of the NetApp Manageability Software family, we have poured tremendous innovation into these products, making sure that they deliver the highest performance and application uptime at an attractive price. Whether a customer is looking for a powerful SAN for massive performance needs, a midrange SAN or NAS, or an archive, compliance, or backup solution, NetApp has that customer covered with a variety of solutions. The new products offer seamless scalability."

The ccompany is also developing its channel partners aggressively in India to sell storage systems through the system integrators catering to the SMB category. "With the help of our distributor, we would identify the top performing tier II partners and appoint them," Agarwal added, NetApp currently has Ingram Micro as national distributor and Apparent Enterprise Solutions and Oracle as major partners, among others.

Surjit Sen, national sales manager, NetApp, said, "We plan to tap more channel partners, increase awareness and indulge in marketing too. There would be a lot of training and certification/authorization programs for the channel partners. Our motive is to translate technological benefits to business benefits. We have invested a lot to achieve the world-class service model here - of providing replacement and service in four hours with local spare part depots."

At present, NetApp has multiple partner certification plans - exclusive service program, selling-servicing program, support capability program and a base-level certification program for SIs and VARs. "We also intend to run one training program every month with about 20-30 partners," Sen added.

Positioned between the FAS3050 and FAS6030 systems, FAS3070 provides customers with a range of choice points to meet specific needs for performance and scalability.
What do you think of NetApp's new launch?
