New COMPASS Team to Eradicate Warranty Menace
By
Ramya Nair
Mumbai, Sep 19, 2007
Close on the heels of election of new team of office bearers, Kolkata-based traders' body Computer Association of Eastern India (COMPASS) has decided to take up the warranty issue in all earnestness.
"There's no clarity in the warranty policy for several vendors. The new team will approach the companies and enquire regarding their warranty policy," said Pawan Jajodia, the newly elected president of COMPASS.
As part of modus operandi to streamline the vexed warranty problem in the region, he said the association would seek proper feedback from the industry in general - including the vendors and distributors, in particular. "The feedback that we'll receive will be circulated among the members in the form of booklet," he said.
Jajodia, CEO of Mohit Electronics, who replaces the progressive K. L. Lalani of Lalani Infotech as president, has been associated with COMPASS for last 11 years.
Prior to taking up the new responsibility, Jajodia has also worked as an executive member and as a joint secretary to the chairman of the exhibition committee.
He said that the COMPASS IT Expo would be conducted between December 14 and 17. Started in 1997, the exposition gives a platform for channel partners and other industry players, including the vendors, to demonstrate various technological innovations and new products.
According to Jajodia, even though the IT industry is flourishing in the metropolis, which was considered a laggard IT hub till recently, there's no particular market in Kolkata like the Nehru Place in Delhi or Lamington Road in Mumbai. "Through this expo, we try to bridge this gap and bring all partners with their counters at a common place," he said.
Sanjay Chaudhari, secretary to the new executive team of COMPASS said, "Last year we'd solved the issue of parallel imports raised by a particular vendor and also took up cudgels against Microsoft's anti-piracy raids through the association."
COMPASS, along with 35 other trade associations, is also a member of the conglomerate Confederation of West Bengal Trade Association.
