Philips Star Partners Cry Foul on Incentive Issue
By
Archana Venkatraman
Mumbai, Jun 20, 2006
Hopes raised by the clearance of incentive dues of a few Star Partners by Philips India about a month back seems to have come unstuck. According to the partners, the vendor has taken a 'take it or leave it' stand, offering just 20-40 percent of their dues as final settlement.
The incentives due were for the June-July-August, OND 2005 and JFM 2006 schemes. However, following Sanjay Maheshwari's exit, the dues have not been cleared.
Irfan Siddique, proprietor, Apple Infosys, said, "During my last interaction with Philips in mid-May the company asked me to give in writing that 'the vendor does not owe me anything till March this year', which I flatly refused."
While there are a lot of market rumors afloat about Philips not having documented records and being apprehensive about wrong claims, Siddique said he had all the documents and so did the other partners in his knowledge. "The same copies are with the vendor also, yet they are not clearing our legitimate dues. They want me to settle for 25 percent of the total claim, which I refused," he added.
According to market sources, of the total 35 Star Partners of Philips only six-seven partners have got their dues cleared after agreeing to settle for 25 percent to 40 percent of the total sum. While Tushar Das, who replaced Maheshwari, is new, the partners said Ankan Biswas, the director, was very much a part of the commitment and he should not back out now.
Harish Rohira of DCom Infomatique dealt with Philips for three months last year and then allegedly due to the incentive concern stopped dealing with Philips.
Another Philips partner, Mukesh Mehta of Nutrene, said he too was told that the company could clear only 20 percent to 35 percent of his total claims despite him having proper documentation. "Now we have taken the matter to the Singapore Philips team and are waiting for a positive reply. If nothing works out we will take the matter to TAIT," Mehta added.
The channel is even blaming the distributors, too, to some extent for this issue. The distributors being the link between the vendor and the resellers/dealers, they must intervene to solve the long overdue incentives, the partners said.
According to Umang Mehta, TAIT spokesperson, till now only CDP, a Philips partner, has raised this issue with TAIT. "If the partners approach us, we will definitely take up the issues with the vendor and rope in even the distributors too," he said.
Incidentally, TAIT had taken up this matter with Philips immediately after Maheshwari quit, and the vendor had asked for time to settle the dues.

Nobody seems to be looking at the root of the problem i.e "no record to prove the eligibility" either by way of letter or emails. All these problems can be solved by simply not agreeing to schemes based on verbal commitment. This has been started by Samsung and now everyone is following suit. If indeed, somebody have clear details by way of mail/letters and still any company is backing out, Kindly let me know, and I will ensure that this is solved through our association (All Kerala Computer Manufacturers and Dealers Assocition -AKCMADA) as its president, anywhere in India. All dealers ensure that schemes are not taken for granted "verbally". All similar problems will be solved. |

I think all dealers & ressellers should stop paying companies or distributers if the claims pending for 3 months In IT Max No of companies make false commitment for sale their products. |

The biggest problem in our erstwhile channel is that everyone discounts the incentives. Guys we will all be extinct very soon if this continues. Take the TAIT channel summit for example. The day is not to far where we will no longer be the channel if we continue like this |

Steps has to be taken against philips and the distributors should also be involved in this to clear all the incentives which are pending. |
