Apple has launched a new family of MacBooks (consumer notebooks) in India. As per the company, the new releases - MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air - incorporate state-of-the-art Nvidia graphics, instant-on LED-backlit displays and new large glass Multi-Touch trackpads.
According to the manufacturer, built with the new mechanical design that uses a single 'unibody' enclosure crafted from a single block of aluminum, the new models are thinner and more durable.
The new MacBook line features the Nvidia GeForce 9400M, a new 3D integrated graphics processor with 16 parallel processing cores. As per the company, it delivers up to five times the 3D graphics performance as previous MacBook and MacBook Air designs.
The new MacBooks are available in two models: the 2.0 GHz MacBook with a 160GB 5400 rpm hard drive, and the 2.4 GHz MacBook with a 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive and a backlit keyboard.
Starting at Rs. 1,19,600, the 15-inch MacBook Pro uses the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, running up to 2.8 GHz, and new graphics architecture. It is available in two models: a 2.4 GHz model with a 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive and a 2.53 GHz model with a 320GB 5400 rpm hard drive.
The new 17-inch MacBook Air is available with a 120GB 4200 rpm hard drive, a 50% increase from the previous generation, or a new 128GB solid state drive. Starting at Rs.1,07,000, the MacBook Air comes standard with a high resolution 1920 x 1200 LED-backlit display and weighs only 1.36kg.
Rajesh Narang, Director, AMPLT Technology (Bangalore), said, "The new features of 15-inch MacBook Pro will attract the customers. Apple always comes up with new technologies, and this new launch will help us to sell more MacBook as consumers can now easily work in dim light also."
"Apple has good sale in this area and we get a lot of profit by selling it. This area has got power problem, therefore this new Mac Book with LED-backlit display will help the consumers work easily even without light," opined Abhishesk Chandra, Proprietor, Sun computers, Udipi.
