SafeNet Launches New Ethernet Encryptor

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Dec 09, 2008 1256 hrs IST

SafeNet, a global provider of information security services, has launched its new 10 gigabit, line-rate Ethernet Encryptor. The encryptor is designed to protect sensitive data on high service quality Ethernet circuits. "Bandwidth intensive applications such as voice, video and virtualization along with the consolidation of datacenters are causing significant increases in data volumes over wide area networks. Much of this data is business-critical in nature and needs to be secured to protect customer and business information and to meet compliance demands. Since this information needs to be shared rapidly and widely for effective business collaboration, WAN encryption with flexible key management capabilities and predictable, low latency is required," said John Pescatore, VP Distinguished Analyst, Gartner. The SafeNet Ethernet Encryptor 10G enables government agencies, departments and contractors to easily secure high-speed core networks with minimal administrative and network overhead, the company said. The SafeNet family of high-speed encryption products provides the assurance of FIPS and Common Criteria-certified security. Designed to support the growing movement towards these Ethernet services, the Ethernet Encryptor secures sensitive data more efficiently than higher layer protocols, thereby lowering the cost of network security and compliance. "In the current economic environment, companies are looking to reduce cost and complexity of compliance. Fortunately, the carriers are providing more Layer-2 network services. Encryption at layer 2, such as Ethernet, is the superior solution to protecting data in transit over the WAN where it can be done with low latency and with no additional increase in bandwidth," said Joe Moorcones, Corporate Vice President, SafeNet.
