Sahara Launches Lifestyle Products

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Jul 22, 2005

Sahara Computers and Electronics Limited (SCEL), a joint venture partnership between South African company Sahara Computers and Sahara India Pariwar, has announced its foray into the lifestyle segment.

SCEL launched a range of products like digital cameras, MP3 players, 5-in-1 e-DVR and a 'camera notebook'.

George Van Der Merwe, chief operating officer, SCEL, said, "The digital lifestyle market is growing exponentially with innovative devices being launched everyday. This is a global trend and the Indian market is no different. Since we have been the frontrunners in the lifestyle segment in the international markets, entering this segment in India was only a logical extension of our presence."

Among the products, Sahara MP3 Player priced at Rs 6,999 comprises of USB2.0 MP3 player, digital voice recorder and FM radio. It has got 64MB RAM and 35MB hard drive space.

The 5-in-1 device consists of DVR, digital camera, USB storage, webcam and voice recording. It is of the size of an average pen. It also has an inbuilt webcam and is priced at Rs 4,999.

The Sahara camera notebook is targeted at professionals. The product comes with Intel Pentium M range of processors with an embedded 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera. The embedded camera in the notebook has the ability to capture images and video at 0-240 degrees angle.

Merwe said, "Within a brand conscious and loyal market like India, competition is vigorous and we aim to be a household name in this country too."
Will Sahara succeed in lifestyle product segment?

Are you sure that you are buying sahara itself and not any other products. Because this is quite contrary to the feedback that I have got from my dealers. I have been inundated with requests from a good number of dealers in western maharashtra for the entire range and frankly I am already over sold out for the next 3 weeks.
