Samsung Opens Digital Zone for Lifestyle Products

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Jul 23, 2005

Digital lifestyle major Samsung India launched a new range of digital audio players, digital 'slim' cameras and digital camcorders, in an effort it called "redefining the concept of personal entertainment and mobility".

To market its lifestyle products, Samsung has set up the first Samsung 'Digital Zone' in Kolkata.

In total, Samsung is launching five digital audio players - YP-C1, YP-T7, YP-T8, YP-F1 and YH-J70, priced in the range of from Rs 4,900 to Rs 22,900. With these new models, Samsung's range now increases to 10. The audio player line-up includes both Flash-based and HDD-based digital audio players, with all models offering colour LCD display.

Ravinder Zutshi, Deputy Managing Director, Samsung India, said, "The new lifestyle products call for innovative marketing strategies and that is the reason we are looking at retailing these products not only through conventional multibrand outlets but also through our exclusive brand stores, select IT Channels as well as our exclusive Samsung Digital Zones."

The company plans to set up 6-7 more Digital Zones in the country this year.

It launched 9 digital still cameras in the country. The new range has resolutions ranging from 4.0 megapixel to 7.1 megapixel, internal memory ranging from 16MB to 64 MB, SD/MMC card compatibility, PictBridge capability and a large TFT LCD screen. The digital camera range is priced between Rs 8,490 and Rs 24,990. The new range includes the Miniket X 6-in-1 model priced at Rs 49,000.

Zutshi said, "We expect the contribution of digital media products to our total AV business to grow from 15 percent this year to over 30 percent by 2007."
Is Samsung's shift to digital lifestyle complete?

Though Samsung is doing something new and better every time after sales service support is not good. Samsung is not in a position to give Hard Disk replacement of any type till 20 to 40 days and that is the continious problem faced by channelo and reseller .
