Samsung Unveils New Digital Lifestyle Range
By

Bangalore, Apr 5, 2006
Samsung India Electronics announced its new range of digital lifestyle products and marketing initiatives to strengthen its digital products market share this year.
The new range unveiled comprises four digital still camera models, five models of digital camcorders and two MP3 players.
The YP-D1 model, the company claimed, is the world's first MP3 player with a camera, the Pro815 digital still camera is the world's longest built in 15X zoom, 8 megapixel high-specification digital camera. The company also announced the launch of its first DVD camcorder model, VP-DC 163i, in the Indian market.
Rajiv Kenue, general manager, consumer electronics, Samsung India, said, "The consumer electronics business would be the focus for this year. This is an era of PCs being converted to TVs and vice-versa, and Samsung India has recognized the thin dividing line between IT and electronics. The digital lifestyle products would cater to the growing segment of convergence between IT and electronic goods."
Kenue added, "Samsung aims to achieve a market share of 10 percent in each of the product categories with a growth of 300 percent in digital camcorder, 700 percent in digital camera and 400 percent in MP3 player."
To achieve these targets, the company has launched new marketing initiatives including the opening of Audio Video (AV) Zones and plazas across India, of which two AV Zones are being opened in Karnataka.
Pradeep Tognatta, director-sales, Samsung India, added, "We will be conducting roadshows across the country in cities with a population of over 1 million. This would be an ongoing process, and there would be a constant effort to reach our target markets."
According to the company, none of these products are currently being manufactured in India and are imports from the parent company. Samsung has invested about $20 million this year into the new digital product lines.
The 2 megapixel YP-D1, which comes with a 2 GB memory, features MPEG-4 playback/photo viewer/text viewer, USB Host for connecting digital devices and a built-in speaker functionality, a built-in FM radio and 20 hours playback. It is priced at Rs.21, 500. The YP-Z5 is available in 2GB and 4 GB versions with 38-hour rechargeable battery. The Z5 is priced at Rs 11,990 for the 2 GB version and Rs 14,890 for the 4 GB version.
The Digimax S-500 with 5 megapixel represents the entry-level camera in the new digital still camera introductions while the Pro815 and S-800, with 8 megapixel resolution, represent the upper-level. The advanced 'all in one' Pro815 model features built-in 15X Zoom, 3.5" TFT LCD, lithium ion battery and top LCD for waist-level shooting. The new DSCs are priced from Rs 12,990 to Rs 54,990.
The new DC-163i DVD camcorder features DVD-RW/-R/+RW/+R (Dual Layer) capability, 4-in-1 multi memory card slot, and the 2.5" wide LCD. The DC-565 Wi will be launched later this month. The Samsung MiniDV range has been boosted with the introduction of three new, advanced digital camcorders, including the 6-in-1 multifunctional camcorder, VP-MM10. It includes the digital video camcorder, digital still camera, MP3 player, data storage, voice recorder and web cam functionality.
The new digital camcorders are available in the price range of from Rs 21,990 to Rs 36,990.
