Secure Computing said it has topped the vendors' list in the web security appliance segment with a global market share of 11 percent.
Citing the latest IDC report Worldwide Web Security 2008-2012 Forecast and 2007 Vendor Shares, the company said it has taken a lead over all other vendors including Blue Coat, McAfee and Trend Micro. Last year, the company had initiated efforts to help businesses implement preemptive security architecture.
"Secure Computing's leadership in the web security market is due to its ability to offer a complete portfolio of web gateway security appliances that protect enterprises from Web 2.0 threats. Secure Computing employs TrustedSource global reputation-based technology, which monitors the behavior of Internet entities in real-time, and assigns reputation-based scores to provide preemptive protection against viruses, spyware and other malware at the source, even before signatures are available," said Brian Burke, program director, IDC.
As per the report, the web security market comprises three distinct segments: software, appliances and hosted services. The appliance segment of the web security market space reached US$ 256.7 million in 2007, and is projected to hit US$ 745.4 million within the next five years. IDC forecasts an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.6% per year for the next five years.
According to IDC, web security includes web filtering products, web anti-malware products, web application firewall products and web content filtering products.
"We are honored that IDC has recognized Secure Computing as the leader in the web security appliance market. Our leadership position underscores our commitment to providing customers with the key capabilities needed for comprehensive web protection today," said Ken Rutsky, vice president (Marketing), Secure Computing.
