"Sell High-end Products and Work as Consultants"
By
P. K. Chatterjee
Mumbai, May 13, 2008
In an e-interview with ChannelTimes, Rajan Sharma, general manager (MB and VGA BU) of Gigabyte India, a company known for its motherboards, graphics accelerators, notebooks and other ICT products, unfolds the company's India-specific plans to P. K. Chatterjee. Excerpts...
What's really meant by 'total digital solution' under Indian context?
A desktop solution - meeting the needs for consumers right form education, information and entertainment, fully equipped with all hardware to meet this requirement.
What's Gigabyte's product-centric strategy for India in 2008?
Energy Saving is the value-addition for our line-of-products in 2008. We will continue to provide the latest product to channel and our customers. We will ensure the availability and launch of all latest solutions from Intel, AMD, Nvidia to be available to India consumers.
How're the demands of UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) and MID (Mobile Internet Device) growing in the Indian market?
These are portable devices, and may still have a long way to achieve success. Things will depend on initiatives on Wi-MAX and creating suitable environment.
What's your contribution in encouraging 'Gaming' in this country?
We are one the leading vendors to design and make available specific products required by the Gaming community - in terms of motherboards and graphics cards - ensuring highest levels of cooling and energy saving at optimum loads. We will be soon launching our EXTREME series MB specially for gaming segment. We have been part of various Gaming Events conducted by media and gaming communities across India.
What's your India-centric sales strategy, and how'll that improve relationship with the IT channel?
Motherboard as a product will keep on selling through traditional IT channel. We have our continuous endeavor to increase and maximize channel profitability, by bringing right products and right technology to channel. Our strategy is always price versus performance.
Do you have a year-wise programme for training the Channel Partners (CPs)?
Yes, currently we have Dynamic Energy Saver (DES) Training going for our channel. It will cover minimum 25 cities before June'08.
Are you planning for any other interaction programmes with the channel, apart from training programmes?
We are the only motherboards' vendor to continue to have our Gigabyte Channel Incentive Program (GCIP) since last 1 year. Currently, our channel interaction comprises co- attending Intel ICC, Road shows, shop-decoration etc. across India.
Do you have any message for the Indian CPs?
Sell high-end products and work as consultants to customers, rather than just selling products for collecting their prices.
