Shemaroo Entertainment has partnered with the Israel Mobile and Communication Association (IMA), to explore new business opportunities in India, along with IMA's member companies.
Contextually, it may be noted that the Entertainment & Media (E&M) industry is now converging with content providers catering to multiple delivery platforms like Radio, TV, Multiplexes, mobile and so on. In addition to their traditional delivery channels, most of the content deliverers are now customizing for newer media, like Mobile and Internet, among others, in order to increase their business and improve their growth prospects.
As for the last four decades, Shemaroo has been playing a vital role in the Indian entertainment industry, the company has a vast experience of the transiting media platforms, and a good deal of knowledge of the changing content demand of the Indian society. It is now not only gearing up to cater to the emerging demand of mobile entertainment contents, but also attempting to stretch a handful of technology to the mobile operators.
The nucleus of the Israeli communications industry, Israel Mobile and Communication Association (IMA) is an organization with more than 100 member companies. They serve as an innovation hub, and their portfolio of companies offer a large number of Value Added Solution (VAS) as well as infrastructure, network efficiency and optimization solutions.
Shemaroo has been active in the fast-emerging Digital Distribution space for the last two years, offering end-to-end expertise from aggregation to conversion. The company has strong relationships with all operators in India. Now, it is looking at overseas expansion. So far the company has been a content player providing exclusive audio and video contents. Now, Shemaroo is entering the VAS solutions space in a big way.
This partnership between Shemaroo and IMA aims to bring innovative products and solutions to the Indian Mobile Scene. A number of activities are being planned as part of this collaboration. The first of these being a roadshow to introduce the Indian Mobile Operations to IMA, and showcase a few of their member companies.
Six Israel companies are being represented in this roadshow, and they will be presenting their ideas and solutions to all service providers in India like Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance, Tata Idea, and BPL, among others.
Jai Maroo, director, Shemaroo Entertainment, says, "We are excited to partner with IMA. Israel is a technology hotbed and innovator in the mobile space, and we are certainly looking forward to bringing some very innovative solutions to the Indian mobile space."
"Our partnership with Shemaroo will enable us to offer our Indian operator customers innovative services and applications, which are already bundled with popular Indian contents," says Eyal Reshef, Founder and CEO of IMA.
He further adds, "Partnering with Shemaroo will allow us to better serve our customers in India, and have local presence. Combining content and innovation is key to accelerate growth of mobile content market in India and globally."
Hiren Gada, Director, Shemaroo Entertainment, says, "As a strategy, Shemaroo has been focused on new media and digital distribution platforms as new ways of distributing content. In fact, Shemaroo has been a catalyst in the industry's shift from the Physical to the Digital media."
However, this partnership is just the beginning of a journey. The modus-operandi of this joint approach will vary from case to case. At present, Shemaroo will just present IMA's solutions to the Indian operators. The exact role of Shemaroo, and basis of profit-sharing between IMA and Shemaroo, will be chalked out after Indian operators start picking up IMA solutions through Shemaroo.
